How to connect Bluetooth Headset

Lately you spend more and more time in your car, so you have decided to buy a Bluetooth earpiece so that you can talk safely even while driving, but also while you’re on the road, on foot, for the most diverse purposes. After evaluating the model best suited to your needs, you realized that you never had to deal with similar devices, so you are looking for valid instructions that can teach you how to establish a connection between the headset and the device usually uses.

Well, I’m happy to let you know that you are exactly in the right guide! I will explain below how to connect Bluetooth headsets to portable devices equipped with Android and iOS, to Windows and Mac PC.

Before going any further, I want to make a necessary clarification though: the pairing procedures for the various Bluetooth headsets may be slightly different from each other, so I cannot be sure that the steps I am going to illustrate are the same for all the devices (I will better clarify this aspect later in the guide).

Having made this necessary premise, it is time to move on to work! Take some time off all for yourself, make yourself comfortable and read everything I have to say about this interesting topic: I’m sure, at the end of this guide. You’ll be perfectly able to connect your new headset to your smartphone, to tablet or computer, with such simplicity as to remain almost blown away. That said, I can only wish you good reading and good work!

Preliminary Operations

Before going to the actual action and learning to connect the Bluetooth headset to the terminal you have, let me give you a couple of useful information: first, you need to know that there are really a lot of Bluetooth headset models, characterized by different characteristics, such as format, autonomy, coverage distance, insulation, coupling mode, compatibility and so on. If you have not yet chosen the Bluetooth headset that best suits your needs, I invite you to take a look at my specific purchase guide to identify the right model for you.

Secondly, but not least, before you can proceed with the actual connection of the Bluetooth headset, you must set it up for detection: if this is the first time you use the device, this can be done simply by turning on this lastly, then place it in your ear to listen to any instructions provided or status audio signals (on, ready and so on).

If, on the other hand, you need to ” recycle ” a Bluetooth headset already used in the past and connect it to a new device, you may need to perform additional operations, it is possible to cancel the previous pairing and enter the detection mode by turning off the headset, and turning it back on by keeping the appropriate switch pressed (ie the rear part of the earpiece itself), generally for several seconds after the sound is played startup. In this way, the headset becomes detectable again and ready for a new pairing and uses a guide voice to illustrate the operations to be performed.

These instructions should be valid for most commercially available Bluetooth headsets: if this does not work for you, and you are unable to continue with the next steps, I urge you to consult the headset manual available to you in order to to discover the exact procedure to be performed to enter the detection mode (also called pairing mode).

Connect Bluetooth headset to Android

Now that you have correctly configured the headset at your disposal for connecting to a new device, it is time to find out how to perform the pairing procedure between the latter and an Android smartphone or tablet. In principle, what you need to do is access the Bluetooth settings on Android, activate the connection in question (if necessary) and select the headset from the list of available devices, then follow the on-screen instructions and complete the procedure pairing.

So, for a start, take your Bluetooth headset to your ear and if you haven’t already done so, follow the instructions above to set it in detection mode. At this point, move to the Android device in your possession, call up the notification area by swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom, then make a long tap on the Bluetooth icon until the related settings panel is shown.

If the icon is not present, or if it is not possible to access the Bluetooth settings as shown above, you need to tap the Settings icon located in the Android drawer (ie the area where the icons of the installed apps reside) and select the Bluetooth item attached to the Wireless and networks section.

At this point, if you have not already done so, move the lever located next to the Bluetooth item to ON to activate Bluetooth, then wait for Android to detect the earpiece: after detection, the device name is shown in the Available devices box. Should the detection fail, press the Update button to update the list of available devices in the vicinity.

At this stage, all you need to do is select the name of the headset from the list of available devices and wait for Android to show the confirmation of the pairing (confirm that, in all likelihood, it will be confirmed by an audible alert from the headset) ; if necessary, when prompted, type in the PIN 0000 on Android (or, alternatively, the one explained in the manual of the headset you have) and tap the OK button to complete the pairing procedure.

Wait a minute, are you telling me that both the headset you have and your Android smartphone have NFC technology? Then the process becomes even easier! First of all, you need to activate NFC on your device: go to the Android Settings screen, identify the Wireless and Networks section, tap on the item Other/Additional Settings and move the trigger to NFC on Activated. After that, place your headset on the smartphone and wait for the connection to be notified: simpler than this!

Once the recognition is complete, you can use the Bluetooth headset to make, receive and reject calls, give voice commands, check (if applicable) music playback on your device and other similar features, when it is located at a detection distance. To delete the association between the device and the headset, log in once again to the Bluetooth settings panel, tap the device name and select the item Dissociate from the next panel.

Connect Bluetooth headset to iOS

Do you have an iPhone or an iPad and do you want to connect your Bluetooth headset? Don’t worry, the procedure is as simple as that seen for Android!

So, no more talk and let’s go straight to the action: after setting the headset in detection mode and connecting it to your ear, take your iPhone / iPad, touch the Settings icon located on the home screen, tap on the item Bluetooth and turn the lever on the next panel to ON.

Set Bluetooth on iOS

After a few seconds, the name of the headset at your disposal will be shown in the list of devices located nearby: select it and wait a few seconds for the connection to be established and the word Connected will appear next to the name (followed after a few moments by the sound feedback of the ‘headset). If necessary, enter the PIN 0000 when required or any other number sequence is present in the user manual of the headset at your disposal.

If you want to temporarily disconnect the device, or completely disassociate it, press and hold the button (i) in correspondence with the name of the earphone, resident in the Bluetooth settings screen, and select the desired item from the next screen.

Connect Bluetooth headset to Windows

Are you planning to connect your Bluetooth headset to a Windows computer or tablet? Then this is the section for you: below, I will give you the necessary instructions to perform the procedure on both Windows 10 and previous versions of the operating system.

Before continuing, let me tell you one thing: although virtually all smartphones and tablets currently on the market are equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, this thing may not be true for computers. So, if you intend to use your headset on a desktop PC or laptop, make sure that the Bluetooth chip is present on it. Otherwise, you can always buy a Bluetooth USB adapter for the purpose for a few dollars.

Before proceeding further with this guide, remember to put your Bluetooth headset in pairing mode, using the instructions provided above, and place it in the detection range of the computer.

As for Windows 10, making the association between the PC and the Bluetooth is very simple: click on the Start button located in the lower left corner of the screen, then press the button ⚙ resident in the left bar of the menu (or screen) ) that opens, choose the Devices icon from the next panel and then select Bluetooth and other devices.

Set Bluetooth on Windows 10

At this point, switch to the Activated switch located immediately below the Bluetooth voice, presses the Add Bluetooth or other device button, then select the Bluetooth item and wait for the headset to be detected by the computer. Now, click on its name and wait for the configuration to be automatically completed (if necessary, enter the PIN for your device, normally 0000, when requested).

You can view or define further settings on your headset (view the remaining autonomy, disconnect it and set the presence or absence of the display) through the appropriate window shown on the screen at the end of the pairing procedure.

Connect Bluetooth headset to macOS

Aren’t you interested in connecting a Bluetooth headset to your PC because you’re using a MacBook, a MacBook Pro or an iMac? No problem! Bluetooth connectivity is definitely integrated into the device you have, so what you need to do is simply activate it (if you haven’t already) and perform a simple association procedure between your Mac and your headset. Remember, even in this case, to set the headset in detection mode and place it within range of the computer.

At this point, the steps to be taken are really simple: first of all, click on the System Preferences icon attached to the Dock, select the Bluetooth item from the window that opens and then click on the Activate Bluetooth button on the left. After this, wait a few seconds for the Mac to detect the earpiece, showing its name in the Devices box, and presses the Combine button located next to it: after a few seconds, the association is finalized and the headset paired with Mac.

Set Bluetooth on macOS

In order to quickly manage the Bluetooth devices connected to the computer, using the top panel of macOS, I suggest you put the check mark next to Show Bluetooth in the menu bar, located at the bottom of the Bluetooth settings window. It wasn’t difficult, was it?
