I bet you’ll be amazed at how easy it is to download music on Android and create ringtones from scratch by cutting out only the portion of the song you are interested in. And it does not end here!

If you want, you can also cut out parts of songs and set them as an alarm, as a notification sound or as a ringtone for a specific contact in your address book. How? Keep reading and you’ll find out. Do not worry about the compatibility of the app: the indications that you find below are valid for the vast majority of Android devices and for all the most widespread versions of the operating system of the green robot. You just have to read and put into practice what I’m about to illustrate. Good fun!

Download music on Android

Before you can see in detail how to cut songs on Android, you have to copy the songs to be transformed into ringtone on your phone. If you have not already done so, know that there are at least a couple of roads you can take. The first is to download directly on the smartphone the song to be cut. The second provides a much more classic transfer of songs from the PC to the phone via USB cable (or via Wi-Fi).

If you do not want to use the PC, I suggest you use an application like TinyTunes that allows you to search for music online and download it directly to the phone’s memory. The app in question is completely free, but is not available on the Play Store. This means that to install it on your device you have to disable, at least temporarily, the protection that prevents you from installing apps that come from unknown sources on Android.

To disable the protection that prevents installing apps that do not come from the Play Store, go to the Android Settings menu (the gear icon), select the Security item in the latter and move the option switch to ON Unknown origins. Respond positively to the warning that appears on the screen, and you’re done.

At this point, open your favorite browser ( Chrome ), connected to the Internet site exigocs.com and presses the Install button located under the TinyTunes icon to download the latter on your smartphone. If you are asked with which app, you want to download the installation package of the app, choose your browser and answer OK to the notice that appears below.

When the download is complete, open the Android Download app, select the TinyTunes_xx.apk file from the latter and press first on the Install button and then on the Open button to install the application on your smartphone. If you do not find the Download app, download the free file manager ES File Manager and open the TinyTunes installation package with the latter. At the end of the installation, you can go back to the Android settings and reactivate the blocking of apps coming from unknown sources.

Now I do not think there is much to explain. To download a song on your smartphone using TinyTunes, all you have to do is start the app and search for the song you are interested in using the search bar located at the top. When the operation is completed, then put the check mark next to the song title to download and presses the arrow icon located at the top right to start the download. Files downloaded from TinyTunes are stored in the phone’s Home / TinyTunes / Songs folder and can be listened to directly from the app by going to the Library tab.

If you want to copy on your smartphone some songs that you have previously downloaded on your PC, all you have to do is connect your phone to your computer via USB cable and use the Windows File Explorer (or the Android File Transfer application for Mac) to transfer the songs of your interest. Alternatively, you can install applications like the free file manager ES File Manager and take advantage of its Wi-Fi sharing feature to copy songs to your smartphone wirelessly.

WARNING! Unlawfully downloading copyrighted music from the Internet is a crime. The indications in this tutorial are to be considered for illustrative purposes only, I do not take any responsibility for the use that could be made of them.

Cut a song on Android

Now you’re ready to cut songs on Android, which I recommend you do via the free Ringtone Maker application available on Google Play Store. Once started, Ringtone Maker will show you a list of all the songs on the phone’s memory (or the memory card inserted in the device) to cut one, press the icon (…) placed next to its title and select the item Edit from the menu that appears.

In the screen that opens, use the two gray indicators that are on the chart to delimit the beginning and end of the portion of the song to be cut and presses the button with the Floppy disk icon to save your ringtone.

Then select the type of song to save from the appropriate drop-down menu (in addition to the ringtone you can choose generically music or alarm for alarm or notification to create a notification sound), type the name you want to assign to the song and press the Save button to complete the operation.

After saving the ringtone, you can choose whether to set it as default to use it right away, assign it to a specific contact or share it in other apps by pressing the Quota button.

Note : if in the main Ringtone Maker screen you do not find the title of the song you want to cut, press the ≡ button located at the top left, select the Browse item from the menu that appears and navigate ” manually ” in the folder that contains the file of your interest (eg Home / TinyTunes / Songs for songs downloaded with TinyTunes).

Change ringtone on Android

If you change your mind, to change the ringtone of your smartphone again, you can go to the Android settings menu (gear icon), select the Audio and notifications from it and press the gear icon located next to the entry General.

Then you have to ” tap ” on Phone ringtone and choose whether to browse the system default ringtones (by selecting the Media Storage option from the menu that appears) or to recall the ringtones saved in other apps. For example, if you have installed the free file manager ES File Manager, you can select it and browse freely through the folders on your smartphone to select the ringtone of your interest.

Following the same procedure, but by selecting the Default notification sound from the settings menu, you can change the default notification sound of Android, while if you want to assign a custom ringtone for a contact, you have to follow a completely different procedure. Going into more detail, you have to open the app Contacts of Android, then you have to select the name of your interest, you have to press the pencil icon located at the top right and you must select the item Set ringtone from the menu (…), also located it in the upper-right corner.
